Which streaming service do you use most?

Over a decade later, and we’re still talking about the iPhone 4s

Patrick is right — the iPhone 4s from 2011 is still a stunner today. Its design really set it apart back in the day, with its classy glass back. Yes, it’s a solid and blocky phone, but frankly, it’s easier to grip than the super slim phones we all have now.

One of the quirkiest things about this old phone is the 30-pin connector. I remember how much of a pain this was to disconnect, but at the same time, it clicks in so satisfyingly secure — something you don’t really get with today’s connectors. Plus, there’s something neat about the camera being flush with the back of the phone, unlike today’s models with their camera bumps.

Despite its pretty outdated specs, the iPhone 4s was ahead of its time. It’s a blast from the past and a reminder of how much things have evolved. It’s more than just nostalgia; it’s a nod to Apple’s lasting impact on phone design and tech in general.

I got to say, though… I don’t miss the home button.

Will you watch the Paris 2024 Olympics?

Four years ago, the COVID-19 pandemic made for an unconventional 2020 Olympics for Tokyo, which makes this year’s Paris games even more exciting. However, I’ve personally cut cable and don’t have a Peacock subscription. So, rather than paying for yet another streaming service, I’m thinking of taking Chris Hachey’s advice and investing in a smart TV antenna to watch my favorite events like women’s gymnastics and men’s swimming for free. That is, when I’m not actually in Paris for the Olympics as I was lucky enough to snag some seats for the men’s basketball final game.

Are you team over-ear or on-ear headphones?

As an audiophile, I love my over-ear headphones, but after a while, I definitely feel the pressure build-up as they encompass my entire ear. On-ear headphones, on the other hand, do what the name suggests and sit on top of the ear. As Pocket-lint’s Charlotte Maracina notes in her Marshall Major IV review, on-ears can be more comfortable for those with multiple piercings on their ear perimeter. But the intelligent Sam Smart notes, the open shape can be awkward for glasses wearers. And then there’s sound quality. Typically, on-ears don’t have the same level of focused isolation as over-ears, which according to Maracina causes some pretty severe sound leakage. So, while I maybe can’t wear my AirPods Max over-ears all day without some pressure, I do think I’m sticking to the over-ear form factor. Which do you like better?

Do you still collect physical audio mediums?

In the wake of Spotify’s price hikes, and the debate of lossless audio, it feels like there’s been a call for a return to the past. This seems to coincide with the fact that recent years have brought the return of vinyl records to the forefront of music culture. It seems like everyone knows someone who collects vinyls and has a record player in their house. They have an aesthetically pleasing look to them, and provide a certain quality you can’t get elsewhere. They also provide a sense of pride, when you find that vinyl you’ve been looking for or an artist you like releases a new record with custom artwork. You can set it up in your shelf and be glad you found it. The downside of vinyl has been this very thing though. Vinyls are very expensive, sometimes as much as $50 USD for a new one. It’s something that can be hard to justify when you can’t take it on the go, and Spotify is still not charging that much a month. Are you looking to start/continue physical audio collection or will you

Netflix originals July 2024: Part 1 of Cobra Kai’s final season, Sweet Home season 3 and more

Though the internet is going crazy right now thanks to the re-release of Lost on Netflix, this month has some pretty cool original films and TV shows as well making their debut on the streamer.

First up, Eddie Murphy returns to one of his most iconic roles in Netflix original film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which hits this weekend. Then, possibly the most-anticipated drop of the month happens July 16, when the first 5 episodes of Cobra Kai season 6 drop, kicking off the three-part final season.

Other notable releases this month include new animated series Exploding Kittens, which will release its first run of episodes July 10, true crime documentary series Homicide: Los Angeles, which will drop all 5 of its episodes on July 16, and K-drama Sweet Home season 3, which will premiere all episodes of its final season on July 19.

Will you be watching any of these originals? Or are you too busy catching up with Lost and the Dharma Initiative?

What do you want from the next Polaroid?

The Polaroid comeback has been a huge part of casual photography culture. The Polaroid Now+ and Polaroid Go are a staple in casual photography, especially in universities where we have so many moments to capture, and the swing is towards more analogue photography. What would you like to see them evolve with the next Polaroid? I can’t help but think the form factor is still a little too bulky, even with the Polaroid Go Generation 2. It’s nowhere as convenient to slip into my backpack as the FujiFilm Instax Evo with its slim build. What would you like to see them fix or change?
