Tom Cruise Awarded With Prestigious Honor by France’s Culture Minister

On Friday, July 26th, 2023, Tom Cruise was officially inducted by France’s culture minister, Rachida Dati, as a Knight of the Legion of Honor. The ceremony took place in Paris, France.

Deadline reports that the honor is one of France’s most respectable accomplishments, given to other cinematic icons such as Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Robert Redford, amidst various likely peers in the industry. The Legion of Honor has 79,000 members, where around 300 foreigners and 2000 French citizens are bestowed the privilege of being a part of such an exclusive and honorable congregation. The criterion for being considered as a foreigner is described as: “[Foreigners] may be decorated with the Legion of Honor if they have rendered services (e.g. cultural or economic) to France or supported causes defended by France, such as human rights, freedom of the press, or humanitarian action.”
