Amanda’s thoughts
This book is GREAT fun. I’m actually writing this review in early June. I usually read in order of publication date, but I bumped this one up in my TBR because soon I will see my best friend from high school, who lives in CA. I thought maybe her voracious reader kids would like this, so I wanted to get it to sooner than I’d plan so I could pass it off to them. I’m so glad I picked it up, because not only did I love it, but I know they will, too.
There is a lot to like here. One, it’s a graphic novel, and those just recommend themselves these days. It will be pulled off the shelf over and over just because of the format. Two, this is a HEFTY graphic novel. It’s long (250+ pages) with lots to read. For all the kids who absolutely tear through graphic novels, this will give them something a little more meaty to read and keep them busy. Three, it’s about books and stories and characters and libraries and readers. We book nerds love books about books! I’ll stop enumerating all the reasons this book is great, but there are truly so many more. The writing is strong, the plot is interesting, the characters are delightful, and the fantastical adventure is so appealing.
One can only guess at what kind of chaos would ensue if characters from books could get out of their stories and into real life. Well… one could guess, but Lincoln can show us. Twins Page and Turner are surprised to learn that this indeed does happen and have to team up with some well-known characters to try to set things back to right. It’s not a simple task, and though it’s a little perilous, it seems like a pretty fun task. Readers will delight in seeing familiar books and characters and will be carried away by the imaginative plot.
Now… where do I apply to be a night librarian?
