How the popularity of WWE has impacted movies, music and more

With WWE Wrestlers attaining celebrity status and an entire generation of fans looking up to them, it wasn’t long until they made their mark in Hollywood. Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock has had one of the most bankable careers in the movie industry with multiple hits in his career. Dwayne Johnson has also starred in multiple music videos and magazine covers, making up for a well-rounded career. Similarly Dave Bautista transitioned into movies along with his successful wrestling careers.

On the other hand, John Cena has scaled great heights not only in wrestling but also in other aspects. He made his mark with his wrestling persona, rapping before his matches began. Post this, he starred in multiple comic roles and TV shows. He also reached great heights because of his advertisements and endorsements. Movies such as Iron Claw and Nacho Libre which were based on wrestling helped shape the public perception of the game in the right direction.

At the same time, WWE made a huge impact on the music industry as well with artists releasing WWE-themed songs. This included bands like Kid Rock and rap artists like Wale.

WWE’s wrestlers reaching celebrity status and the wide acclaim of the show

Being a fusion of athletics and theatrics, WWE has successfully found a way to market their wrestlers. With their own merchandising lines, they have been able to sell products that range from clothing to action figures. This only comes from the huge fanbase who are glued to their screens for more action and drama. Phrases from the show such as The Rock’s popular catchphrase, “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?”, Steve Austin’s “Can you give me a hell yeah?”, The Undertaker’s “Rest in Peace”, John Cena’s “You want some, come get some” among others have become a big part of the cultural lexicon.

WWE also made its way into video games gaining more and more traction. The popularity only increased with the WWE 2k series with wrestling-inspired characters. The game ‘Street Fighter’ had fans going gaga over it.

The positive impact that WWE has had on the society: upliftment of women and philanthropy

On the other hand, WWE has had a huge role to play in the upliftment of women in professional wrestling. It has aided the rise of women from being side attractions to main roster headliners. Icons such as Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Tiffany Stratton and others have proved that when given the opportunity, they shine like their male counterparts. Another positive impact of WWE on society is through philanthropic efforts. The brand and its superstars have always been driving forces of a varying range of philanthropic outreach.

WWE has partnered with Make-a-Wish and they have worked together for more than four decades to grant wishes of children who have been diagnosed with critical illnesses. The WWE Superstars have granted more than 6000 wishes, with John Cena leading with 650 wishes granted. This has created a positive impact for the WWE Universe with their goodwill being recognised.
