Breezy Zawoysky, 19, is a local artist and entrepreneur living in Taneytown. She works at Antrim 1844 in Taneytown.
Zawoysky got interested in art when she was 5 years old. “I started getting into crafts. I made bracelets and sculptures out of paper,” Zawoysky said. She started painting on cardboard that her dad gave her. She painted landscapes, cats and horses. Her father taught her how to draw a horse by giving her a horse sculpture for her to reference.
She learned about art when she was in school. Zawoysky attended Taneytown Elementary and then Northwest Middle School. She learned ceramics, papier mâché, paintings and drawings. Her favorite artist is Leonardo da Vinci.
When she attended Francis Scott Key High School, Zawoysky excelled in art. “I learned basics drawing for the first two years.” I drew a hairless cat with pencil as one of my projects,” Zawoysky said. “Then, in my junior and senior year, I did more drawings using pen.”
Zawoysky did a lot of pointillism work with pen and ink. Pointillism is a method of creating an image with tiny dots so that the image comes together at a distance.
Zawoysky also did landscape paintings using watercolor paint. “I did not like watercolor pencils. When I colored in something and added water you could see the pencil marks. I am a very particular person about that. Mostly, I used regular watercolors,” Zawoysky said.
“One project in school was to draw a cup of ice water. I was pleased when mine was entered into a competition. It took me hours to draw it,” Zawoysky said.
Zawoysky tried ceramics. “I love ceramics because I like making a mess,” Zawoysky said. “It seemed more like art if it was a mess. I was not very good at it. We had to make shoes and animals out of clay. I found it difficult. It is more about detail. You also must have steady hands and I am a very shaky person. She also made a spider rat combination. That one turned out well.”
Most of Zawoysky’s work today is abstract. She does pour paintings which she learned from her sister who had a business doing pour paintings. Her sister taught her the tips and tricks of doing a good painting.
Zawoysky also learned photography in school. She used a Canon camera that her grandfather gave her. “I had always had a love of photography. My sister and I loved to go take photos. I took a class and learned the history about it and I fell in love with it. I like that you can capture a moment in time with a camera,” Zawoysky said.
She likes to take close-up images of nature, flowers. Zawoysky also likes taking photographs of barns and architecture. She wants to take photos of barns with animals that give it a good point of view. Zawoysky currently uses a Minolta camera but plans to go back to Canon. She grew up using Canon and is more comfortable with it.
Zawoysky graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 2023. Currently, Zawoysky has her own business and takes photos of baby showers, weddings and senior portraits.
“I want to get out more and expand my photography business and expand my art business,” Zawoysky said.
“I love seeing people’s faces when they see my work. It makes me feel good that they are loving it and enjoying it,” Zawoysky said.
