Space entrepreneurship to be included in 100-Cube start-up initiative | Bhubaneswar News
BHUBANESWAR: IIT Bhubaneswar’s Research and Entrepreneurship Park (REP) will incorporate space entrepreneurship into its 100-Cube startup initiative, which was launched in February of this year.
Shreepad Karmalkar, the director of IIT Bhubaneswar, announced this during a two-day event held at the institute. This event was organized in association with the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR, to commemorate National Space Day.
Karmalkar highlighted that IITs across the country have expanded their focus beyond knowledge generation, dissemination, and application to include wealth generation through startups and entrepreneurship.
He emphasized that IIT Bhubaneswar is actively working towards this goal with its 100-Cube Startup initiative. Karmalkar further mentioned the institute’s aim to foster entrepreneurship among school-level students through its REP, noting that space entrepreneurship would be a key part of this endeavor.
Soobhankar Pati, CEO of the REP at IIT Bhubaneswar, shared that they have incubated startups whose technological innovations could be beneficial to ISRO. J Damodaram, a senior scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), spoke on the importance of enhancing collaboration between entrepreneurship and innovation to advance progress in the space sector.
The event also featured a mobile exhibition titled ‘Space on Wheels,’ showcasing ISRO’s innovations and achievements, along with static floor exhibitions of scaled-down models and equipment used in the space sector. Additionally, the event included a space quiz for school students, popular talks by leading scientists from ISRO, space startups, and academicians, followed by interactions among various stakeholders.
