Rice wins several CSC Creative & Design Contest awards

Greenwood, Ind. — University of Lynchburg director of digital media Sam Rice won four awards from College Sports Communicators in the 2023-24 Creative & Digital Design Contest announced Wednesday. 

Rice was recognized for two videos in the college division of the Video of the Year contest. His equestrian hype video from the 2023 NCEA championship placed third, and Rice’s video on baseball’s Brandon Pond placed fifth. Both of Rice’s videos were named the “Best of Division III.” Another one of Rice’s videos, his equestrian hype video from this year’s NCEA championship, placed third in the Division III hype video category. 

Rice also led the design of Lynchburg’s visual element suite for the 2023-24 school year complete with pregame and postgame graphics, weekly awards, and conference and All-America recognition. His portfolio of graphics was selected as the second-best in Division III this year. See the portfolio here. Throughout the year, head of photography Caroline Gerke, athletic communication graduate assistant Josh Smith, director of athletic communications Tim LaDuca, and softball infielder and student-worker Jessica Strickland helped Rice execute his visual strategy.

This year’s field of participants for the CSC Creative & Digital Design Contest saw more than 1,600 entries, an increase of 69% from last year’s contest and included 697 entries from the University Division and 921 from the College Division. Division II led that division with 391 entries, with 243 from Division III, 121 from the NAIA, 44 from two-year colleges, 19 from the high school ranks and 11 from Canadian Institutions. 

Rice graduated from Lynchburg in 2021 with degrees in sports management and marketing. He served as a graduate assistant in the athletic department for two years as he earned his Master’s in Business Administration in 2023. Rice has served as the director of digital media in the Hill City since August 2023.
