Iowa weather: A nice summer day today with extreme heat for the weekend
THIS WEEKEND. THAT’S A CELEBRATION. THAT’S A BAD KIND OF PARTY. IT’S GOING TO GET HOT. YEAH, WITHOUT A DOUBT. THIS WEEKEND. PLAN FOR IT TODAY. ENJOY IT. IT’S NOT GOING TO BE FEELING AS BAD OUTSIDE. WE DO HAVE THE SUN BACK IN PLACE. WE’RE NOT GOING TO BE LOOKING AT ANY RAIN CHANCES. ANYTHING YOU WANT TO DO OUTDOORS? IT’S A GREEN LIGHT AS FAR AS SKYCAMS ACROSS THE STATE, YOU’RE LOOKING AT A LOT MORE OF THOSE CLEAR SKIES, A LOT MORE SUN, EVEN A NICE, BEAUTIFUL VIEW. SOME PINK OFF THE HORIZON FROM OUR WEST DES MOINES SKYCAM. AS FAR AS THE WEATHER HEADLINES, IT’S COMFORTABLE SUMMER DAY TODAY. WARMER FOR FRIDAY, EXTREME HEAT BY SATURDAY, AND GOING THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEKEND EVEN TO START OFF YOUR WEEK, YOUR WORK WEEK NEXT WEEK. SUNNY AND COMFORTABLE FOR TODAY WITH WARM TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON. SO AS FAR AS RUNNING THE BETTER, BETTER CHANCE OR EVEN GO WALK DO ANYTHING OUTDOORS. THE MORNING WILL BE MORE ENJOYABLE. STILL GOING TO BE JUST FINE THIS AFTERNOON, BUT IT IS GOING TO FEEL A LITTLE BIT MORE STICKY WITH THE LEVEL OF HUMIDITY THAT WE HAVE. THAT’S JUST THE RADAR NOISE. NOT LOOKING AT ANY TYPE OF RAINFALL ACROSS THE STATE, REALLY MAINLY OFF TO THE EAST. WELL TOWARDS THE BORDER. THE EASTERN BORDER WITH MORE OF THAT CLOUD COVER STAYING IN PLACE HOUR BY HOUR, THAT FOG STILL STICKING AROUND IN SOME SPOTS. SO PLAN FOR THAT. BUT AS FAR AS THE REST OF THIS MORNING, IT MOVES OUT, CLEARS UP, AND WE’RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT MORE SUNSHINE FOR THIS ENTIRE AFTERNOON. AND AS WE HEAD INTO TONIGHT, WE’RE STILL GOING TO BE STAYING CALM GOING INTO TOMORROW. NOT A GREAT CHANCE FOR ANY FOG REFORMING THROUGHOUT YOUR FRIDAY. SO POSSIBILITY MAINLY TO THE SOUTHEAST. BUT AS WE HEAD INTO FRIDAY AFTERNOON, STILL GOING TO BE A NICE SUNNY DAY FOR THE MOST PART. SOME CLOUD COVER COULD COME IN AND BLOCK OUT THE SUN A LITTLE BIT FOR THE AFTERNOON, BUT WE’RE NOT GOING TO SEE ANY RAIN CHANCE WITH THAT GOING INTO THE REST OF FRIDAY NIGHT, YOU’RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT CALM CONDITIONS AS WELL. THE GREEN COLOR ON YOUR SCREEN IS THAT RELATIVELY COOL AIR THAT WE’VE BEEN ENJOYING AS WE ZOOM OUT. HIGH PRESSURE IS IN CONTROL OF US. IT’S JUST TO OUR NORTH IN MINNESOTA THAT’S GOING TO MOVE ON OUT, AND THAT HEAT WAVE IS MOVING IN. WE’RE GOING TO HAVE THAT SOUTHERLY FLOW MOVE BACK IN OVER US AS WELL. THAT WILL RAMP UP THE MOISTURE AND THE TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE CLIMBING. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT IT’S GOING TO BE FEELING LIKE AS WE GO INTO THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND. SATURDAY, MID TO UPPER 90S, CLOSE TO AROUND 100 WAS GOING TO FEEL LIKE. AND AS WE GET INTO SUNDAY, SUNDAY AFTERNOON, WE’RE GOING TO BE CLOSER AROUND THAT 105 INTO THE TRIPLE DIGIT TERRITORY IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT. NORTHERN IOWA CATCHING A LITTLE BIT MORE OF A BREAK WHEN IT COMES TO THOSE TRIPLE DIGITS, MOST LIKELY. THEN GOING INTO MONDAY. NOW WE’RE ALL GOING TO BE REALLY DEALING WITH MOSTLY THE TRIPLE DIGITS, EVEN SOME OF US, THAT 105 TO 110 RANGE. SO YOU NEED A PLAN FOR THE HEAT. IT’S GOING TO BE VERY IMPORTANT TO STAY HYDRATED. TAKE BREAKS AND WEAR THOSE LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING. THE DARKER CLOTHES, DARKER COLORS GETS MORE OF THAT HEAT. IT’S GOING TO HEAT YOU UP QUICKER. LOOK AT THE EIGHT DAY FORECAST WEATHER IMPACT DAYS SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY. THIS IS THE ENTIRE WEEKEND AND STARTING OFF NEXT
Iowa weather: A nice summer day today with extreme heat for the weekend
After the showers and storms yesterday, we are drying out today.Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts The humidity will still stay at bay with only a light east wind expected for this afternoon. Still expect to feel sticky outside during the warmest part of the day, but the humidity will only climb as we proceed through the weekend. We will have more of a southerly flow for Friday as temperatures and dew points start to climb, but Saturday is when we will really start to feel it. The weekend will bring temperatures back into the 90s as the heat dome that was anchored over the western US starts to extend eastward. The southerly winds will bring in more moisture which will make it feel even hotter outside. Another factor to consider is the crops are now more mature which will also add to the tropical conditions via evapotranspiration. The heat index values will climb to 100 to 110 degrees outside, so it will be very important to watch your outdoor exposure. Makes sure you take breaks from the heat and drink plenty of fluids. There is heat relief next week. Rain chances will return Tuesday and Wednesday as some frontal boundaries will pass over. A mild dip should arrive Tuesday with a better drop by Wednesday which will bring back more seasonable and comfortable summer temps. Iowa weather forecastToday: Mostly sunny. High 85F.
