Miranda Lambert just revealed that her husband Brendan McLoughlin played a part in creating her newest hit song, “Dammit Randy.” The former NYC police officer even has some stake in the success of the single.
Miranda and Brendan have been married for five years after their whirlwind romance led them down the aisle just three months after they met on The Today Show. Although Brendan has always supported Miranda’s music, sticking by her side as she travels around the country on tour, he has never been a part of the songwriting process until now.
Miranda shared a video on Instagram recalling the details of the writing process for “Dammit Randy.” In the clip she revealed that Brendan was one of the writers behind the single. “Damnit Randy I wrote with Jon Randall and my husband Brendan,” Miranda explains. “He got a cut on the record, so he will not shut up about it which is very funny.” Of course that means, if the song does well, Brendan is in for a big payout.
“We were talking about making this new album with a new record label family, with Big Loud and with Republic, and we were going to the studio the very next day to start the record. Jon and I were doing pre-production at the house in Austin, having some tequila, and we started talking about how excited we were to have a new family that was excited about the music and all about the art,” Miranda continues.
Miranda goes on to explain how the trio named the song. “Me and Jon have a saying that we’ll say ‘dammit Randy,’ because his name is actually Randy, and we were talking about the journey from going from a place where you didn’t feel super supported to where you did. So, ‘Dammit Randy’was born and the rest is history,” she concluded.
Fans were surprised to hear that Brendan played a part in writing the anthem and surprised to hear that Randy was not a play on Miranda. They rans to the comments, writing:
- “Well Dammit Mir-Randy. I lovvvvve this track. And @brendanjmcloughlin I can’t wait to see u sing it at karaoke. 🙌😂”
- “I love this song so much.!! I thought ‘Randy’ might have been a nickname of yours… lol”

- “i wouldn’t shut up about it either if i got to write a song with ML 🤣🤣”
- “i thought y’all were a power couple before but now y’all write together? 🤩🤩”
Everyone is hoping Miranda will follow up her recent string of singles with a full-length album soon. Hopefully the upcoming album will include even more lyrical genius from Brendan!
