Today was an interesting one coming in at 100° for the daytime high followed by some immediate cooling thanks to a line of showers and thunderstorms pushing into our area! Overall we saw a good 0.25 to 0.5 inches across most of the area, with some heavier spots under some of the heaviest activity in Irion and Coke counties.
Tonight we’ll continue to watch these showers and storms fizzle out as they run out of energy. Overall winds should be out of the south around 5mph but gustier at times with those leftover outflow boundaries. Morning lows should fall into the lower 70s and upper 60s around the region as we’ve seen dew points jump into the 60s and 70s.
Tomorrow is an even bigger rain day starting around the noon hour! Right now it looks to start spotty but increase to more widespread shower and storm coverage tomorrow afternoon. Be on the lookout for high water on roads and flash flood warnings potentially as some of these storms will be heavy downpours with slow steering winds. Right now I’m forecasting the lower 90s for highs, but we could be kept cooler depending on the timing and intensity of the rain.
Longer term, an elongated upper level trough has us wedged between itself and the upper level ridge over the American Southwest. It should keep us in an active patter through most of the seven day forecast, but especially through the Tuesday timeframe. Rain chances are heavy through Tuesday and decrease heading towards next weekend, while temperatures look to steady out in the lower 90s for daytime highs and morning lows in the lower 70s.
