LUBBOCK, Texas (KLBK) — Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center:

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM CDT Friday for Childress, Cottle, Dickens, Garza, Hall, Kent, King and Motley County. High temperatures may climb as high as 107° in these counties.

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM CDT on Friday for Borden and Scurry County. High temperatures may climb as high as 105° in these counties.

Today:
Slightly hotter weather is forecast on Friday across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Sunny to mostly sunny conditions and breezy weather is forecast across the area. There is a very slight chance for a thunderstorm late in the afternoon for some areas. High temperatures will be in the triple digits area wide. The wind will be out of the south-southwest 15 to 25 mph. The chance for rain is 10 percent.

Sunrise this morning is at 6:40 AM CDT.

Tonight:
There is a very slight chance for a thunderstorm in the evening for some areas. Partly cloudy conditions, breezy intervals and warm weather is otherwise forecast for this evening and tonight. Low temperatures will range from the very upper 60s to the very low 80s. The wind will be out of the south 10 to 20 mph. The chance for rain is 10 percent.

Sunset this evening is at 9:02 PM CDT.

Saturday:
The heat backs slightly on Saturday across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. However, it’ll remain still hot across the entire area. It will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy day and breezy at times. There is a very slight chance for thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening for some areas. High temperatures will range from the middle 90s to the lower 100s. The wind will be out of the south 10 to 20 mph.

Extended Forecast:
There is a very slight chance for thunderstorms across portions of the South Plains and the Rolling Plains in the late afternoon and evening on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Very isolated to isolated thunderstorm chances are forecast on Wednesday and Thursday (July 4th) of next week as well.

High temperatures on Friday will be in the lower 100s. Saturday’s highs will range from the middle 90s to the lower 100s. Highs on Sunday will be in the middle and the upper 90s. Drought Update:
Abnormally dry (D0) conditions and some patches of moderate stage (D1) drought conditions continue to be reported across western portions of the South Plains, according to the latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) released on Thursday, June 27. Abnormally dry (D0) conditions also continued to be reported across the far southern South Plains and the Rolling Plains. “Drought-free” status continued to be reported across some portions of the western, the central South Plains, the eastern South Plains and most of the Rolling Plains. The Lubbock metro area remained classified as “drought-free” on the updated USDM.
