June restaurant health inspections for Hinds, Madison, Rankin counties

Twelve commercial restaurants in the Jackson metropolitan area failed health inspections during the month of June according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Upon a follow-up inspection, only 10 of the restaurants rectified the problems and earned a passing score from the MSDH as of press time. The other restaurants have not yet had follow-up inspections.

The number was a spike compared to May when eight restaurants received a failing grade. Only two failed in April, by contrast. Among the 12 that failed in June were some of the most popular restaurants in the area.

Below are the restaurants in MSDH District V that includes Hinds, Rankin and Madison counties that scored failing grades of “C” on the MSDH’s restaurant inspections for the month of June in the Jackson metropolitan area:

Hinds County

  • Old Capitol Inn, located at 226 North State Street, in Jackson, had an inspection June 20 and was cited for permit type 3 for one violation that was not designated. On June 26, Old Capitol Inn received a B for permit follow-up.
  • The Manship Wood Fired Kitchen, located at 1200 North State Street, in Jackson, had an inspection on June 21 and was cited for a complaint that was not designated. A follow-up inspection has not yet been posted for The Manship Wood Fired Kitchen.
  • Country Inn & Suites, located at 5760 I-55 South N.E. Frontage Road, in Byram, had an inspection on June 4 for a corrective follow-up and was cited for two violations under supervision for person in charge not demonstrating knowledge and performing duties and non-proper disposition of returned previously served reconditioned and unsafe food. On June 13, Country Inn & Suites had another inspection for a corrective follow-up and was cited for one violation for non-certified manager. On June 21, Country Inn & Suites received a B for corrective follow-up.
  • Texaco, located at 5300 North State Street, in Jackson, had an inspection on June 17 and was cited for permit type 3 for two violations under supervision for non-certified manager and under potentially hazardous foods for non-proper hot holding temperatures. On June 28, Texaco received a B for permit follow-up.
  • Hanging Moss Food & Gas, located at 6262 Hanging Moss Road, in Jackson, had an inspection on June 11 and was cited under preventing contamination by hands for inadequate hand washing facilities not supplied or accessible. On June 25, Hanging Moss Food & Gas received a B for permit follow-up.
  • The Station, located at 3025 North State Street, in Jackson, had an inspection on June 18 and was cited for permit type 3 for four violations under preventing contamination by hands for inadequate hand washing facilities not supplied or accessible, hands not cleaned and properly washed and under potentially hazardous foods for non-proper cooling time and temperatures and non-proper cold holding temperatures. On June 18, The Station received a B for permit follow-up.
  • American Deli, located at 2530 Robinson Road, in Jackson, had an inspection on June 13 and was cited for a complaint that was not designated. On June 24, American Deli received a B for permit follow-up.
  • Golden Chopstick, located on 803 Ellis Ave., Jackson, now known as Bobby Rush Blvd., had a re-inspection on June 7 for one violation that was not designated. On that same that, Golden Chopstick received a B for re-inspection.
