For the Culture KS kicks off, organizers invite the community to celebrate Black culture all weekend long
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The second annual For the Culture KS is officially underway, with a jam-packed weekend ahead.
The festival was created to celebrate black culture and Topeka’s black community, by highlighting various music, artists, speakers, and businesses. Each day, the event features a different headline performer.
The festival is free and open to the public, with activities accommodating all ages. In addition to all the fun, organizers hope that attendees leave the event having learned something new through exposure and inspiring discussions.
”So many different music genres that we are proud of,” For the Culture KS co-founder Mackenzie Mondesir said. “They get to enjoy our food. Connect. You know a big part of it is the connection part, right? Meet somebody new, shake their hand, and just get to know somebody different.”
Saturday’s activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. and the fest officially wraps on Sunday at 5 p.m. The festival is held at Evergy Plaza for the entire weekend.
