As temperatures continue to stay favorable compared to a few weeks ago, people are making meals on the grill.
When it comes to grilling though, Guthrie County Health Services Director Jotham Arber says that making sure everything is prepared correctly is extremely important. He advises that all meats should be cooked to their recommended temperatures, and that cold food items should be kept cold enough that they don’t spoil. Arber tells Raccoon Valley Radio how often calls related to foodborne illnesses are received in the summer months.
“When we’re thinking about foodborne illnesses, that’s probably the number one thing that gets reported during this time of year when we are having these cookouts.”
Arber adds that prep stations and hands should also be cleaned between food items, as it prevents the transfer and spread of bacteria, especially after handling raw meats.
