ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A fashion show benefiting victims of human trafficking was hosted by Miss Julies School of Beauty Saturday.
The third annual show was called ‘The Diamonds in the Rough Fashion Show.” Julie Chapus, also known as Miss Julie, started her business as a non-profit, therapeutic, cosmetology school to help human trafficking victims and those at risk of becoming a victim receive vocational training and enter back into the community.
Chapus tells us all funds from the fashion show go straight back into her school to help victims.
“Miss Julie School of Beauty is really the first school of its kind in the nation. There is no therapeutic cosmetology school for traffic survivors that exist right now. We really believe as trauma informed school we know that people are more than their trauma. Just because something horrible happened to you doesn’t mean that that’s who you are for the rest of your life,” Chapus said.
Chapus says she also runs ‘Christ for Kids Ministries’ and has authored several children’s books designed to help them deal with everyday struggles.
