Dorchester Co. Libraries collect donations, offer food to the public

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Dorchester County Public Library is working to help get food and supplies in the hands of those who need it.

“People are getting used to coming in and seeing that we have the food here. They will ask for it if we are out. We usually have about a weekly delivery from MidShore Meals Til’ Monday,” says Julie Kennedy, the Dorchester County Public Library Assistant Director and Youth Services Coordinator.

Officials say both the Cambridge and Hurlock branches have areas designated for community members to come pick up food. They have partnered with MidShore Meals Til’ Monday for more than a year to provide the service, but are now also encouraging the public to drop off donations as well.

“If people would like to go ahead and donate food, you know non-perishable goods, canned goods, but also hygienic products that are brand new, haven’t been used, even if it’s just travel size items, that we will also put out right where the food is and then individuals that come in here can take what they need,” explains Kennedy.

If you’d like to make a donation they ask that you do it at the Cambridge branch where they have more room, just check in with a staff member.

Library officials also say they have more free resources available, things like covid tests, gun locks and of course some free books.
