‘Don’t become a carpenter because of artificial intelligence,’ says Government tech adviser

Departmental report said 30pc of employment is in occupations ‘negatively exposed’ to impact of AI

A member of the Government’s new national AI Advisory Council has criticised the framing of AI employment issues by a joint report from the Departments of Finance and Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Technology lawyer Barry Scannell, who was speaking in a personal capacity, said that last month’s report, Artificial Intelligence: Friend or Foe?, sent “the wrong messaging” and that he “really disagreed” with it.
