Aspen ArtWeek is finally underway as artists, galleries, and collectors descend on Aspen to enjoy world-class art in our Rocky Mountain setting. From the Aspen Art Museum and local galleries to the Aspen Art Fair and Intersect Aspen Art and Design there is a host of activities that will appeal to every type of art enthusiast.

Here is a roundup of things to do, see, and enjoy over the next five days.

ArtWeek, Aspen Art Museum

This year is a special anniversary edition of Aspen ArtWeek (officially, Jul 31- Aug. 3) culminating with the ArtCrush Gala on Aug. 2. The gala honors the museum’s 45th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the Shigeru Ban-designed building. For the first time, three figures will be honored: architect Shigeru Ban, artist Jacqueline Humphries, and composer and artist Jason Moran.

But even if you didn’t snag a ticket to ArtCrush this year, you can still participate in Aspen Art Museum’s programming throughout the week.

The week offers a series of artist performances, talks, and live events to complement the exhibitions on view at the Aspen Art Museum.

ArtWeek is packed with a range of events including private collection visits, a performance by Ryan Trecartin atop Aspen Mountain (accessed best by chair lift, naturally), a museum rooftop (this is also the site of brand-new café, Swedish Hill) duet by Jason Moran and Alicia Hall Moran, a party with Bottega Veneta, talks with artists such as Allison Katz and Jacqueline Humphries, and a sound bath performance by Himali Singh Soin and David Tappesser.

“For this special anniversary edition of Aspen ArtWeek, we are building upon what a visionary group of artists initiated 45 years ago — an experimental institution nestled in the mountains to celebrate and respond to the greatest creators working today. Our honorees, artist Jacqueline Humphries, architect Shigeru Ban, and artist and composer Jason Moran, exemplify the pursuit of collaboration, transformation, and imagination that are at the heart of this institution. The new, expanded group of co-chairs has supported this work, enabling us to be a creative haven of innovation envisioned nearly half a century ago and going stronger than ever today,” said Nicola Lees, Aspen Art Museum director, in a press release.”

The Aspen Art Fair, Aspen’s new international art, design, luxury, travel, and hospitality takeover set against Aspen’s stunning backdrop at the historic Hotel Jerome will take place for the first time from July 29-Aug. 2, 2024.

The new fair was conceived by co-founder and director Becca Hoffman, as a new type of art convening that aims to re-think, re-examine, re-engage, and re-invigorate, connecting international and creative communities in Aspen.

Hoffmann is also the founder of 74tharts, the women-led arts organization that is presenting nomadic, cultural pop-ups around the world.

The inaugural edition of the fair, which will present more than 20 international exhibitors from 12 countries, the work of around 90 artists, and specially curated projects, is organized in partnership with Aspen’s cultural institutions. It will bring together a global network of art dealers, collectors, and enthusiasts for a first-of-its-kind, intimate, and bespoke fair experience at the Hotel Jerome – honored last month with a prestigious MICHELIN Key as one of the most outstanding hotels in the U.S.

The fair will combine the traditional art fair model as well as presentations in public spaces and hotel rooms, in an intimate, social setting with a robust program of exclusive home tours, a salon-style speaker series, art prizes and residencies, cocktail receptions, dinners, and guided hikes to take advantage of the region’s natural beauty.

Tickets are $100 for a full pass or $30 per day.

Aspen’s modern and contemporary Art and Design Fair’s programming and events are intended to delve deeper into the artwork of the more than 100 revered artists whose work will be unveiled at the 2024 fair.

Additionally, the daily events schedule reflects a global and local alignment of art presented by 31 internationally and nationally renowned art and design galleries and key leaders and voices of the Aspen art community.

This celebration of internationally and nationally renowned artwork will create a five-day, immersive experience in a traditional yet progressive art fair setting. The Aspen Ice Garden, in Aspen’s West End, is transformed to showcase pivotal artwork across a 16,000 square-foot venue, with many opportunities for artist meet-and-greets for attendees throughout the event.

“We could not be more thrilled with our lineup of extraordinary galleries, programming, cultural and community partnerships,” said Tim von Gal, CEO of Intersect Art and Design Fair, in a prepared statement. “We are ecstatic with the record-setting registration of collectors and art enthusiasts upon announcing our 2024 galleries. This demand and appreciation from our attendees validate our extensive efforts in serving both Aspen and the art community.”

Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair will feature over 100 artists with over 30 of the world’s top galleries from over 20 cities including a dozen first-time exhibitors. For a list of galleries and additional gallery and artist highlights, please visit HERE
