Anna Kendrick‘s new movie Self Reliance will be available to watch in the UK very soon.
The comedy thriller, written and directed by New Girl star Jake Johnson (who also stars), is set to be released on August 9 exclusively on streaming service Paramount+.
The movie was released on Hulu in the US earlier this year, on January 12, following a one-day special cinema release.
The cast also includes Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Andy Samberg, Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire, Dead to Me’s Natalie Morales and Back to the Future icon Christopher Lloyd.

Self Reliance follows Tommy, a middle-aged man who gets invited to play a game where he can win a million dollars in a dark web reality TV show.
He only needs to survive for 30 days while a group of assassins (called ‘hunters’) from all over the world attempt to murder him. Tommy finds a loophole in the game, though — the hunters can only attack him when he’s alone.
He only needs to surround himself with others in order to avoid death and win the game. However, his friends and family don’t believe the game is real, so Tommy is forced to find other allies.
Tommy finds another player (played by Ana Kendrick) and they decide to spend every moment together so they can survive the twisted game and win the money, growing closer in the process.

The movie, which premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2023, has a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (from 59 reviews).
Self Reliance is Jake Johnson’s feature length directorial debut. The actor is known for his role of Nick in Fox’s hit TV show New Girl, and he recently starred in the now-cancelled HBO Max show Minx.
Johnson also voices Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but he hasn’t been confirmed yet to return for the anticipated third instalment Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Self Reliance is released on August 9 on Paramount+.
