Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney both passed on hosting the Academy Awards in 2025, says a Monday report, suggesting Hollywood may finally be growing some self-awareness.
ABC reportedly made offers to both Kimmel and Mulaney to host the Oscars in 2025 but neither of them wanted to do it, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kimmel has already hosted the show four times, making him the “obvious” (puke) choice to do it again. But for some reason, Kimmel bailed. And he bailed on hosting the Emmy awards.
After teasing for a while, saying even in June that he might end up hosting the awards, Mulaney declined the offer too. Even though the awards have until Sunday, March 2. to find a host, who is going to want it after these two guys said no?
I have no idea why I think this but I wouldn’t be surprised if — depending on how the 2024 presidential election turns out — Travis Kelce ends up hosting the Oscars. Why? (RELATED: Travis Kelce Apparently Spent $8 Million To Date Taylor Swift So Far)
Part of me genuinely believes Kelce is that desperate to be part of the A-list inner circle. Hosting the Oscars would certainly put him within reach, potentially mitigating any fallout from a breakup with Taylor Swift that would render him “just another one of the exes.”
Then again, who gives a crap?
No one likes awards shows anymore except for the people getting the awards — and even then, most of them don’t actually care. You know this; we know this, yet Hollywood has been slow on the uptake of this borderline universal truth. And as the rest of America patiently waits to see if we’re going to be hit with a financial crisis, an asteroid, or World War III first, you can bet we’re done giving a crap about actors being good at acting (which isn’t even a hard job unless you do stage work).
