Founder of (the now 2K-owned) Gearbox and avid magician, Randy Pitchford, has shown his hand a little more than expected in a recent interview with TheGamer, in which he pretty much cops to a new Borderlands game being in the works and reveals that more information is coming “sooner rather than later.”
Though it’s far from a secret – even without constant rumours, another Borderlands feels inevitable – it’s definitely exciting for fans of the series to hear from its creators’ own mouth that more official news is impending.
“Oh man, I don’t think I’ve done a good enough job of hiding the fact that we’re working on something,” Pitchford told the outlet. “And I think people that love Borderlands are going to be very excited about what we’re working on.
“These are fuzzy words, but sooner rather than later, we’re going to be talking about what we’ve been working on, and I can’t wait.”
“I think I’m genetically made to try and create joy and happiness, and build entertainment. I love movies and I love video games, I love entertainment,” he adds. “So I’m grateful that we have so many great things coming with Borderlands, and I can’t wait to talk about the stuff that we’re working on with our fans.”
It’s been a good five years since we got Borderlands 3, with the gap only slightly filled by Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands a couple of years ago, so a brand-new entry would certainly be great news for diehard fans – and hopefully bring with it some significant updates to the formula.
A betting person would probably suggest a first tease of some kind alongside the release of the Borderlands live-action feature film, which premieres very soon on on August 8th, the latest trailer for which you can see below:
Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland (Hart), a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound protector; Tannis (Curtis), the oddball scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Black), a wiseass robot. Together, these unlikely heroes must battle an alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover one of Pandora’s most explosive secrets. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to BORDERLANDS.
