Fashion Meets Tech: NIFT embraces AI for fashion trend analysis | Chennai News

Chennai: Artificial intelligence is at the forefront of the growing fashion industry and NIFT is incorporating it in the curriculum to prepare for the future, said National Institute of Fashion Technology director Anitha Manohar at the 13th convocation on Saturday.A 20 crore trend insights and forecasting lab has been established on campus, she said. It is the first-ever AI and Emotional Intelligence enabled fashion trend analysis and forecasting initiative.During the ceremony, IIT Tirupati director K N Satyanarayana conferred degrees on 264 graduates. Among them, Rajagopal Raghunath, a BDes (Fashion Communication) graduate, was awarded the NIFT student of the year. Vaishnavee S Ganesh, a BDes (Accessory Design) graduate, won the NIFT extraordinary service award. However, NIFT student Shriya Manish pointed out that there are no trend forecasting services in India that centre their database on Indian requirements. “This will help coming batches to explore how AI can be used to optimise the supply chain and reduce waste.” Additionally, NIFT and the state school education department, will train some govt school students. This year, K Meena and S Durga from Eklavya Model Residential School in Puliyampatti in Tiruvannamalai will pursue BDes, while E Palaniyamal and K Thavamani from the govt tribal residential school at Maniyarpalayam in Kallakurichi will join Bachelor of Fashion Technology programme at NIFT Chennai.
