Amanda Abbington’s parents ‘hit back’ at Piers Morgan with powerful three-word declaration

Amanda Abbington’s mum Patsy has broken her silence on her daughter while appearing to hit back at TV presenter Piers Morgan over his cruel claims about the Strictly star

Amanda opened up about her experience on the BBC show earlier this week

Amanda Abbington‘s parents have shared a defiant three-worded declaration about their daughter following on from her first TV interview after breaking her silence on the Strictly drama.

The star’s mum Patsy has come forward after Amanda was engulfed in controversy following her departure from Strictly last year as she indirectly hit out at Piers Morgan. Earlier this week, the controversial TV host unleashed a foul-mouthed tirade as he lashed out at the “snowflake” celebrity contestant complaining about Strictly in his column for The Sun.

His angry speech came after Amanda appeared on national TV and spoke about her “harsh” experience in the competition. In an interview with Channel 4 News, a tearful Amanda revealed she has been bombarded with devastating death and rape threats after she made allegations against former Strictly partner Giovanni Pernice, accusing him of abusive behaviour towards her in the training room. However, the Italian dancer, 33, has since denied the claims.

Now, her mother Patsy insists her daughter “is no snowflake” as she’s dealt with rejections throughout most of her life, firstly as a young ballet dancer, and then as an aspiring actress. She told Mail+: “It’s a tough profession. You get rejected a lot. She got rejected a lot in the beginning.” Amanda made an early exit from the BBC show last year, citing “medical reasons” for her departure. She later revealed that she developed PTSD from Giovanni’s harsh and “militant” training methods during their rehearsals.

Speaking about her experience in the competition with Giovanni, she told fellow Strictly alum Krishnan-Guru: “This play has certainly reinforced my belief that you can be in a rehearsal room and be nurtured and looked after. Because you start to think, ‘oh, you know, am I going mad?’ but I’m not mad, as you know, but yeah it’s been brutal and relentless and unforgiving.”

She reveals her complaint “is ongoing” with the BBC and that she “can’t say anything about it”. Amanda explained: “At the moment, they’re gathering evidence from various places and from the BBC and from witnesses and from other dancers and from choreographers and other people who have been on the show in the past.” Following on from the TV interview earlier this week, Krishnan has shared his support to Amanda as he admits he stands by “his every word.”

Amanda recently said that there are 50 hours of films showing the pair rehearsing together before she decided to leave the series. However, Giovanni has reportedly decided not to view the footage he is being accused of blocking from public release.

The Mail Online reported that a source said: “Giovanni has not seen or blocked [anyone from seeing] the video footage, which belongs to the BBC. Gio has chosen not to receive it to preserve the integrity of the review.”

Giovanni has strongly denied Amanda’s allegations since they were first raised, but the actress saying she knows the truth about what happened and insisted this week that BBC production staff told her to her face they were “shocked”, “horrified” and “so sorry” after reviewing footage of the rehearsals.
