US Forest Service Road Repair in Cherokee National Forest | Local News

The US Forest Service will soon begin repairs on a road in the Cherokee National Forest.

Big Frog Road, also known as NFSR 62, was damaged during a storm in 2020. The repairs to the road include installation of new culverts, road and ditch reconditioning and surface material replacement.

Work is schedule to begin Monday, July 29 and could last several weeks or more.

Detour signs will be posted if and when the road may be closed or impassable to visitors.

The work could be rescheduled by weather.

Funding for construction repairs is being provided by Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads, which was established to assist federal agencies with the repair or reconstruction of tribal transportation facilities, federal lands transportation facilities, and other federally owned roads that are open to public travel, which are found to have suffered serious damage by a natural disaster over a wide area or by a catastrophic failure, according to the USDA.

For additional information, call the Ocoee Ranger District at 423-338-3300.
