- Comic Con Africa and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) are continuing their partnership.
- Later this month, the pair are hosting the Japan Pop Culture Connect 2024.
- The webinar will feature four different online workshops for local businesses wanting to connect with Japanese brands.
Last year one of the more interesting exhibitors at Comic Con Africa was the Japan Eternal Trade Organization (JETRO), which not only served up otaku experiences, but also looked at the business side of things when it comes to Japan pop culture.
The pair are continuing their collaboration, and later this month, they will host an online seminar for those wanting to learn more about and interact with Japan pop culture companies.
The Japan Pop Culture Connect 2024 webinar is happening via Zoom next week on 26th July, with four different sessions slated.
“This unique opportunity to directly connect with Japanese companies, with assisted facilitation, is kicking off with the online seminar on Friday, 26 July at 9:00AM,” Comic Con Africa shared in a release with Hypertext.
“The online workshop will include focus sessions on acquiring a license and working with Japanese anime IP, success stories on how South African firms have made use of licensing anime brands, as well as an introspective on how South African anime fans view the current local market,” it added.
Organisers note that this year’s webinar will seek to grow on the previous iteration’s success by assisting in the process of speaking to license holders in Japan.
“Comic Con Africa and JETRO are proud to welcome the expertise of Kazuo Rikukawa from CBLA (The Character Brand Licensing Association),who will be able to dive deeper into doing business with Japanese IP holders,” the pair pointed out.
“For the second iteration, we are excited to expand on existing ideas for the returning attendee, as well as explore new topics for newcomers alike. Last year, we walked away from the session feeling that major strides had been made in these business relationships and we are excited to amplify that further,” enthused Ruan Botha, project coordinator for JETRO Johannesburg.
If the business side of things isn’t of interest, there are still plenty of Japan pop culture themed events planned for the 2024 edition of Comic Con Africa, which is happening on 26th to 29th September.
