The Coach of a Sheridan Youth Hockey team has died after being punched in the head in what prosecutors say was a fight over a parking spot.
The assailant, 33-year old Cody McCalla has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter.
According to court documents, at around 6pm this past Friday, a call came in regarding an assault on the 1900 block of West 5th Street, near the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.
A Sheridan Police Officer says when he arrived on scene, he found the victim, Patrick Mudd, on the ground in a puddle of blood and McCalla, who had blood on his hands and face, not far away.
McCalla told officers he was in a fight with Mudd and punched him one time.
Mudd died on Saturday from what Sheridan County Prosecutors say was a traumatic brain injury and added McCalla had a blood alcohol content of about 0.14, about 3 hours after the incident.
A friend of McCalla said Mudd’s girlfriend accidentally hit his (the friend’s) vehicle with hers.
Mudd got out of the vehicle and a shoving match ensued between him and McCalla.
The friend added Mudd punched McCalla first, who then struck back.
McCalla is being held on a $10,000 cash only bond and is awaiting trial.
He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors say he has one prior battery conviction on his criminal record.
