Splitgate is perhaps the best FPS game that you’ve never played. 1047 Games combined Halo and Portal together to create one of the most fun FPS games of modern times, bringing the fast-paced action-packed style of Halo while being able to travel through walls by opening portals to make for some interesting moments and gameplay mechanics.

Unfortunately, Splitgate never took off as many had hoped. It peaked at over 67,000 concurrent players on Steam shortly after launch in August 2021, but one year later it had dropped to just 1,500 concurrent players. Today, it averages approximately 300 concurrent players on Steam and the game was abandoned by the developers in September 2022. Thankfully, the game is still live and according to the developers, it isn’t being shut down any time soon.

1047 Games recently took to X to tease its next game, which will be revealed on July 18th. Not much is known about this game, but it looks to be another shooter. It will be interesting to see whether the portal mechanics are kept in, which I hope they are as it really set it apart from the dozens of other titles on the market today.

The official Splitgate website has now had all of its content replaced with a countdown timer confirming its reveal on July 18th. With it taking over the Splitgate website, it does hint that it could be a sequel which would be great news.

Players took to the replies of the post to share their thoughts on the news, with @th3jmanx saying “I don’t trust anyone more than @1047Games to deliver a high-quality arena shooter. Been pumped for this release for a long time!” And @ZEPCASTS saying “If this is the sequel announcement you’ve made my year! Better get the esports rolling on this I wanna cast everything!!!”

And now, I’m going to reinstall Splitgate and dive into this masterpiece again and set an alarm for July 18th.
