Burlington Stores will open in old Lincoln Sears building

Burlington Stores made it official Monday that it will be opening a location in Lincoln sometime this fall.

The discount retailer said in a news release that the store will open at 6400 O St., Suite 100, in the former Sears store that is being redeveloped. A spokesperson said an exact opening date will be announced at a later time.

It will be the first Lincoln location for Burlington and the fifth in Nebraska.

Burlington, which used to be known as Burlington Coat Factory, sells men’s, women’s and kids’ clothing and shoes, as well as toys, books and housewares. It is similar to stores such as Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Ross.

It will be one of three new-to-Lincoln retailers to locate in the former store, which is being redeveloped by Texas-based Reserve Development in a $36 million project.

Building permits filed earlier this year show one of the other stores is Sierra Trading Post, a discount retailer that sells athletic and outdoor gear, including clothing and shoes. It is owned by TJX Cos., which owns TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods.

Reserve officials have not filed a building permit for nor revealed the name of the third retailer.

A Tesla service center opened late last year in the former Sears Auto Center.
