Biden campaign to restart activity following president’s TV interview Monday: report

President Biden’s campaign will resume operations early this week following a brief pause of political activity that took effect after a gunman tried to assassinate Donald Trump on Saturday, according to a report.

The president’s re-election team will kick back into gear after Biden sits down for a highly anticipated Monday night television interview NBC News host Lester Holt, a campaign official told CBS News.

It’s unclear if the campaign will immediately start running television ads again.

Sources also told CBS News the campaign understands it needs to be cautious with how Biden criticizes Trump in light of the shooting at a Pennsylvania campaign rally that almost claimed his life.

The campaign paused all television ads and other communications quickly after the shooting that wounded two others and killed beloved 50-year-old father of two Corey Comperatore.

Biden and his allies have defended criticism from Trump supporters that Democrats’ harsh rhetoric toward the 2024 GOP presidential nominee sparked the violence that took place Saturday evening.

“In a moment when Americans should come together and unite to condemn this horrifying attack, anyone — especially elected officials with national platforms — politicizing this tragedy, spreading disinformation, and seeking to further divide Americans isn’t just unacceptable — it’s an abdication of leadership,” a campaign official insisted to the outlet.

Biden’s 9 p.m. interview with Holt coincides with the first night of the GOP National Convention.
