Richard Fontenot, of Evangeline Parish, was recently elected Louisiana Farm Bureau president.
Fontenot is a rice, soybean and crawfish farmer who operates R&N Farms, just outside of Ville Platte. He is the 13th president of the Farm Bureau, which was founded in 1921.
He replaces Jim Harper, of Rapides Parish, who served as president of the farm organization for four years.
Newly elected to the executive committee are Second Vice President Burch Pierce, of Catahoula Parish; Third Vice President Amelia Kent, of Tangipahoa Parish; and Young Farmers and Ranchers Chair Nicholas Gerace, of St. Landry Parish.
Reelected were First Vice President Marty Wooldridge, of Caddo Parish; Secretary-Treasurer Mike Melancon, of St. Martin Parish; and Women’s Leadership Chair Michele Simoneaux, of Assumption Parish.
Newly elected to the board are District IV board member Bill Cheek, of Rapides Parish; District VI board member Ted Glaser, of Pointe Coupee; and District VIII board member Benson Langlinais, of Iberia Parish.
Voting delegates reelected District II board member Butch Oaks, of Ouachita Parish, and District X board member Matt Gravois, of East St. James Parish.
