Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast at times throughout the day on Thursday across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Mostly cloudy to cloudy conditions and cooler weather is otherwise forecast. It will be breezy at times. High temperatures will range from the middle 70s to the middle 80s. The wind will be out of the east-southeast 10 to 20 mph. The chance for rain is 40 percent.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast at times this evening and tonight across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Otherwise, it’ll be mostly cloudy to cloudy and breezy at times. Low temperatures will range from middle 60s to very low 70s. The wind will be out of the east-southeast 10 to 20 mph. The chance of rain is 30 percent.

Friday:
Isolated showers and thunderstorms chances will linger across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on Friday. It will otherwise become partly sunny and remain breezy at times. Warmer weather returns with high temperatures ranging from the middle 80s to the lower 90s. The wind will be out of the south-southeast 10 to 20 mph. The chance for rain is 20 percent.

Summer will officially arrive Thursday afternoon here on the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. The summer solstice will occur at 3:50 PM CDT on June 20. The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere.
Extended Forecast:
Scattered thunderstorm chances are forecast at time across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on Thursday and Thursday night. Isolated thunderstorm chances will linger across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on Friday. There is a very slight chance for thunderstorms on Wednesday of next week.
High temperatures on Thursday will range from the middle 70s to the middle 80s. Friday’s highs will range from the middle 80s to the lower 90s. Highs on Saturday will range from the upper 80s to the middle 90s. Sunday’s highs will be in the middle and the upper 90s. Highs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will range from middle 90s to the lower 100s.
Low temperatures on Friday morning lows will range from the middle 60s to the very low 70s. Saturday’s, Sunday’s and Monday’s morning lows will range from the middle 60s to the middle 70s. Tuesday’s morning lows will be in the upper 60s to the upper 70s. Forecast morning lows on Wednesday will range from the lower to the upper 70s.
Drought Update:
Abnormally dry (D0) status and moderate stage (D1) drought conditions continue to be reported across the western portions of the South Plains, according to the latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) released on Thursday, June 13. There was some slight improvements reported over this region thanks to recent rainfall. Abnormally dry (D1) conditions were expanded eastward across the far southern South Plains and the Rolling Plains. “Drought-free” status continued to be reported across some portions of the western, central and eastern South Plains and most of the Rolling Plains. The Lubbock metro area remained classified as “drought-free” on the updated USDM.
