TREMONT, Ill. (WMBD) — A local family-owned car service business that has served the village of Tremont for generations is celebrating a long-term milestone.
Tremont Oil Company is celebrating its 100th anniversary this Friday.
The company offers various services, including oil changes, tire changes for cars and trucks, fuel delivery, and tractor tire sales.
Tom Gibson, who has owned Tremont Oil Company since 1996, reflected on the business, which has been in his family for generations.
“It’s been in my family for a hundred years,” Gibson said. “So it’s been a family deal the whole time. I bought in with my dad and one of my younger brothers after my uncle had retired,”
The story of Tremont Oil Company began when his grandfather opened the business on June 14th, 1924, in the same building where it operates today.
The employees at Tremont Oil have been there for years. The business owner prides himself on this, as it creates a familiarity with the customers they’ve served for generations.
“We’ve got families that have been with us for almost the entire 100 years, and it’s just gone from one generation to the next,” said Gibson. “Being in a small community like this, you’re going to see that,”
The 100th anniversary celebration will be at Tremont Oil on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., during which time giveaways and prizes will be given out.
