MEMPHIS, Tenn. – FedEx announced on Wednesday that it plans to lay off as many as 2,000 employees in Europe as part of the company’s cost-cutting efforts.
In a news release, the Memphis-based company said it is proposing the removal of 1,700-2,000 employees across its back-office and commercial teams across Europe.
FedEx said the changes will also include consolidating teams across the region.
The company did not say in the news release when the layoffs might take place but added that the changes are “subject to local law and consultation processes.”
“These are difficult changes for any business, and we have in the front of our minds our affected team members and their families,” Karen Reddington, president of FedEx Europe, said in a statement. “In line with our culture, we will conduct this process with the maximum support for those affected and in close consultation with our social partners.”
